Age-related eye problem ‘can occur early’
By examining statistics collated for the Gutenberg Health Study, researchers from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz have discovered that age-related macular degeneration (AMD) can affect patients under the age of 50.
Scientists from the department of ophthalmology at the Mainz University Medical Centre assessed the records of 4,340 participants to come to their conclusions.
What they found, which contradicted previous wisdom on the matter, was that 3.8 per cent of subjects aged 35 to 44 were already suffering from AMD. (Full Article)
